  • The Truth About What Is Happening In China

The Greener Grass A Blog by Jessica Nino Tip Of The Day: You are the reason you’re here today. You’re stronger than you believe. ❤ The Truth About What is Happening in China: Trigger Warnings: Islamophobia, Abuse, Violence, Sexual Violence and Assault, Genocide China’s History with Islamophobia: Around the eighteenth century, the growth from the Qing Dynasty destroyed the peace between China and Islamic people. Between 1862 and 1877, arguments between a Chinese Merchants and Muslim Hui led to an ethnic war causing millions of deaths; this was known as the Dungan Revolt. However, much Islamophobia came by influence from the West. Because of the tragedy of 9/11, this sparked immense hate towards the Islamic community. This caused many to avoid or dislike Muslims due to the irrational belief that all are terrorists and aggressive. This only worsened the situation for Muslims, forcing them to be watched closely and calling their religions and beliefs extreme and “dangerous”. This is not only a problem in China, but also a growing problem in and influenced by  the U.S. The Xinjiang Concentration Camps: As many have been made aware recently, many Muslims in China have been taken captive and inserted into concentration camps. They are forced to act against their religious beliefs, mistreated, and punished simply for their belief and faithfulness to the Islamic religion. Sayragul Sauytbay has become one of the few to make it out of the camps alive thanks to asylum from Sweden. She has spoken out about the conditions in the camps, and they are truly terrifying. At the beginning of 2017, Sayragul was taken from her home with her head covered and placed in a jail for hours to be interrogated about where her family was, then told not to share her experience with anyone. Later that year, she was sent to an address and told to wait for police to show up; where she would inevitably be taken into the camps. Prisoners are given uniforms,  get their heads shaved, forced to sleep in certain positions, and crammed in small rooms. Hygiene is not properly handled, food is everyday terrible, and everyone is forced to eat pork. Prisoners are being tortured relentlessly. Women are forced to take pills that would eventually sterilize them, and many are eventually sexually assaulted and raped. Amazingly, Sayragul was able to escape, but what about those who cannot do so? How To Help: https://www.stopgenocide.org/close-the-camps/ https://www.amnesty.org/en/get-involved/take-action/tell-china-to-close-its-secret-reeducation-camps-for-ethnic-minorities/ https://uhrp.org/news-commentary/petition-stand-uyghur-muslims-china To be completely honest, I feel like signing petitions isn\’t enough, but we\’re also in a powerless position; I would advise you all to bring this topic up whenever you can to whoever you can. Being able to spread this information to those around us will most likely follow a chain and spread the words and concerns these people deserve. Contact me Hi! Don\’t be shy! Even if you don’t have suggestions, if you need a safe space, feel emotionally/mentally stressed, are feeling anxious, depressed, or just need a friend, I am always available! FAQs Who Am I? My Name is Jessica & I am a blogger for the CPSB (college prep student bubble) I was given the wonderful ability to create content for you all as a way to relax or entertain/learn while you prepare for AP/college. What Are My Interests? My interests include painting, volleyball, discovering music, reading (mostly sci-fi or romance), writing about absolutely anything and interacting with new people! I believe having hobbies and consistently participating in them helps you mentally and physically destress, so if you haven\’t done something you enjoy today, take the time to do it :). What Do I Intend For This Blog? This blog was created for you as a student to get some daily reading in on something that interests you. This became a resource because AP and college can very often be stressful and a handful, my purpose is to entertain you and help you stay motivated. My writing can be seen as a brain break or relaxer to those who are interested in it. I intend to make this a very chill spot for you all and to bring weekly content on any topic imaginable you suggest/want. What Grade Am I In & What Courses Am I Taking? I am an incoming Junior for the 2020-21 year, and will be graduating with the class of ‘22. I am an Early College High School student, so half of my classes are highschool and the other half are college. My classes this year will include: English 4 dual credit, Geometry PAP, Environmental Systems PAP, US History, (high school). For my first semester in college I am taking College English, Texas Government, and Philosophy. More About My Writing: How did I come up with ‘The Greener Grass’? Very often I heard the saying “the grass isn\’t always greener on the other side” I decided to name my blog after this to give it a positive connotation: it doesn’t matter what side of the “grass’’ were on, sure it may not be the greenest, but I think that by being positive & interacting we can make our grass greener. To me this means we can help each other out, we can teach and learn from each other; we will all eventually feel stress, pressure, & frustration, but together we can make the most out of it and encourage each other & grow. • Songs To Help You Wrap Up Your Summer

The Greener Grass A Blog by Jessica Nino Tip Of The Day: Treat people with kindness (including yourself) ❤ Songs To Help You Wrap up Your Summer With fall at our fingertips, I decided to make a playlist to help you say goodbye to your summer. Although summer was not like what many of us had planned, we can all agree it brought us a break, change, growth, or a chance to prosper. In no specific order or rank, here are some songs that give you the summer feeling even if we couldn’t experience it at its fullness. Although there were many songs to choose from and that I was recommended, I chose to stick to songs that were released this year or late last. (songs are listed by artist/album) Links to each song will be down below. The least I could do was make a playlist to last you the remaining hot days as we transition into fall weather. Cruel Summer- Taylor Swift (Lover) Cruel Summer gives off the perfect summer car ride vibes. Off of the “Lover” album, Taylor uses this song to describe a summer romance/love and the sneaking around and ultimate adventure of it. I Think He Knows- Taylor Swift (Lover) I Think He Knows is such a refreshing song off of the “Lover” album. I Think He Knows talks about Taylor speculating her “crush” is well aware of the feelings she has for them. I Think He Knows carries a beat you can’t resist dancing to. Wildflower- 5 Seconds of Summer (CALM) Wildflower is the sixth track off of 5 Seconds of Summers’ CALM album released March 27th of this year. If I had to pick one song to put me in the summer mood it would most definitely be Wildflower. Wildflower carries an irresistibly funky pop beat and radiates such a positive energy. With their bassist taking on the lead, Calum Hood executes the perfect energy summer is known for giving off. Thin White Lies- 5 Seconds of Summer (CALM) Thin White Lies is a great song to watch the hot sun set to. The deep guitar in the back matches the sun and the chorus adds suspense and a thrill to watch the sun sink into the nights’ loneliness. Solia- Bad Bunny (YHLQMDLG) Off of Bad Bunnys’ second album “Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana” (I Do What I Want), Solia is a song to dance to. Although many had plans to party during this summer, our plans seem to have changed. Although it\’s not the same as an actually party or club/baile, Solia gives us a beat to bump in our room and at least feel the energy we would have expected to feel at a dance. Desires- Drake Ft. Future (Dark Lane Demo Tapes) Desires carries a very fast beat and is honestly very uplifting. With Dark Lane Demo Tapes bringing us a little bit of hope for the long months inside we experienced, Desires is the ultimate hype up song. Watermelon Sugar – Harry Styles (Fine Line) Although Fine Line was released December 13th of last year, Harry hit us with a video for watermelon sugar in may making it an official single. Watermelon Sugar is the ultimate sunny day at the beach anthem. With Harry\’s voice acting as a refresher and the instruments imitating the summer fun. Cherry – Harry Styles (Fine Line) Unlike Watermelon Sugar, Cherry has more serious intentions. Cherry is the song to listen to at night as small gusts of a summer breeze push past you. Cherry is a very reflective tune to enjoy. Sunflower Vol.6 – Harry Styles (Fine Line) Much like Watermelon Sugar, Sunflower Vol.6 is a sunny day anthem. Similarly, it carries a fun and fresh beat to bounce to and is the ultimate serotonin releaser. Unlike Watermelon sugar though, Sunflower Vol.6 gives off ‘fields of flowers’ ‘sun dress’ and ‘random joy dancing’ vibes. Sunflower Vol.6 is the song to listen to if you are in the mood for spontaneous excitement and adventure. Fourteen Gears – Midland (Let It Roll) Fourteen Gears takes a fun yet slower beat and mixes it with an outstanding chorus to complement road trips and sunsets. It mentions the three Texas cities Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio (the holy trio) (joking) (…unless), and is overall a relaxing song to ride along with. Playboys – Midland (Let it Roll) Playboys enhances summer fun in the country, by adding a classic country tone with a stupendous short guitar solo and is a bit nostalgic to the summer nights we expected filled with carnival rides, games, and fun. Lost In The Night – Midland (Let It Roll) Lost In The Night takes a slower approach to a summer night and gives off a slow dance opportunity. Lost in the night is the song to dance to on the porch with your significant other as the moonlight beams over y’all. No Glory In The West – Orville Peck (Show Pony) No Glory In The West is another country tune, but in a much more serious light. This is the song to listen to on a lonely summer night. This southern packed song carries a very meaningful set of lyrics to help decompress and dissect. My Affection – Summer Walker (Life On Earth) Summer Walker releasing My Affection July 10th of this year along with the rest of her Life On Earth EP, put all of us in a certain mood that midnight. Summer Walkers’ soulful voice really gets the job done and sets the mood for a slow vent session in your room. White Tee – Summer Walker (Life on Earth) White Tee will be the aftermath of your previous vent session with My Affection. White Tee is a confidence booster and reassurer. Summer Walker only made this song to remind you who you are and where you stand and hype you up (straight facts). Like It – Summer Walker Ft. 6LACK (Over It) Like it carries the perfect summer vibe beat and Summer and 6LACK execute the lyrics amazingly. Like It is a solid bop that will make up for your ruined “Hot Girl Summer”. Playa – Wynne (If I May) The Portland rapper Wynne released If I May back in October and hit us with the ego increasing confidence booster called ‘Playa’ as the fourth track. Playa only reassures you of who you are and what you can do. It is great to bump in your headphones when you feel you’re having a slower day. Petty – Wynne (If I May) Another song off of If I May, Petty gives off the vibe of exactly what it sounds like: being petty. Petty is another confidence booster to keep you with your head high. Tutu – Camilo & Pedro Capo (Por Primera Vez) Tutu is the summer refresher you didn’t know you needed. It\’s the type of song to make you feel lighter on the inside and enjoy the sun rays beaming through your window next to you. Songs that Didn\’t Make the Cut Because Of Their Release Date Estate – Joao Gilberto Make You Mine – Public Marlboro Nights – Lonely God Tongue Tied – Grouplove Sad Summer – Yeek Slide – Calvin Harris Ft. Frank Ocean No Better – Lorde The Louvre – Lorde End Up Here – 5 Seconds Of Summer Summer Love – One Direction Fireproof – One Direction A.M. – One Direction Contact me Hi!
